Versão em Português abaixo

Here in Portugal, cases had raised in the last days and yesterday, Portugal’s government, led by Prime Minister Antonio Costa, declared a “state of alert” until April 9.

If you have a booked trip to Portugal, you might be very worried about the coronavirus outbreak in Europe.

To help you understand what this represents, authorities have introduced several measures to try to stop the spread of the virus throughout Portugal.

Schools, nurseries and universities will be closed from March, 16 (next Monday) until April 9.

Monuments and museums are closed.

Sports events, religious services, concerts, plays, conferences, and different types of events have been cancelled or postponed.

Night clubs are closed.

Shopping centres and restaurants must open considering capacity restrictions.

Cruise ship passengers will not be allowed to disembark until they are a Portuguese resident.

These are just some of the 30 measures declared by the Government that impact directly on citizens and tourists as well.

Most of these constraints cause a large impact on people’s routine and demands great discipline and sacrifice by everyone. By now, everyone must understand that the collective effort is vital for controlling the situation and avoiding further damage to Portuguese society and economy.

The general advice is for people to stay at home, avoid social gatherings and unnecessary trips. The purpose is to slow down the contagion and to avoid a probable collapse in the health system.

Therefore, if you have a booked trip to Lisbon or any other place in Portugal, consider postponing it!

Contact your travel agent, airline, or hotel and check the conditions for delaying your Lisbon vacation until the situation goes under control.

Lisbon will always be here to host you! It doesn’t matter if it is gonna take some weeks or months, to enjoy this lovely city! By now, the most important thing is to keep you and everyone here safe!

Take care and have a nice weekend!

Devo cancelar a minha viagem a Lisboa?

  • Aulas em todas as escolas oficialmente suspensas a partir de segunda-feira, dia 16/03;
  • Monumentos e museus fechados;
  • Eventos de diferentes tipos cancelados ou adiados;
  • Limitação do número de pessoas em simultâneo, em centros comerciais e supermercados;
  • Encerramento de discotecas;
